Web UI/UX Engineer

Columbia, MD

The Web UI/UX engineer will be responsible for various aspects of web application design and development in a dynamic, young internet technology company. In this role you will be responsible for participating in the design and implementation of the primary user interface for the company’s flagship Crowd Control system leveraging PHP,  MySQL, and various front end web technologies.

The day to day

• Work with technology, product management, and business team members to define and refine requirements in an agile development environment
• Leverage existing UX/UE expertise to produce interface mockups and documentation to aid in the requirements refinement process
• Take part in team scrum meetings to keep other team members up to date with project progress
• Implement and test new system components and features
• Devise new and innovative ways to analyze and visualize complex data.
• Integrate user interface features with external components via various web services protocols, such as REST and SOAP
• Opportunity to design and develop REST based services and other “back-end” components
• Prepare all necessary system documentation to facilitate QA and release processes

Qualifications

• 4+ years web development experience
• 4+ years of experience creating fast, user friendly, and engaging web applications
• Meticulous and detail oriented, aggressively seeks out information required for problem solving or understanding features
• Ability to multi-task
• Experience in the following is required:
  • Major web technologies, such as CSS and Javascript
  • Building web applications utilizing a relational database and PHP
  • Writing complex SQL queries
  • Iteratively designing user interfaces by incorporating feedback from various parties
  • Working with source control systems

• Experience in the following is highly desired:
  • The Symfony Framework
  • The jQuery javascript library

• Java experience is also nice to have and will provide the opportunity to participate in a wider range of experiences and ability to deliver throughout the entire application stack.
• Any experience or exposure to technologies such as Thrift, Cassandra, and MemcacheD is also beneficial.
